Our Women in Leadership spotlight series shines a light on some of the many talented women who work on our team and are committed to developing and empowering their female colleagues.
Monika Fernando
Director, Head of Fixed Income Electronic Trading Strategy (Europe & Asia)
Monika has led TD Securities' Women in Leadership group in Europe since its foundation in 2018. She has spearheaded several initiatives to drive gender equality forward and has most recently focused on re-engineering our recruitment practices to reduce both conscious and unconscious bias throughout the hiring process. She is a tireless champion and advocate for women and spends much of her personal time coaching and empowering many female employees at TD to achieve their goals and aspirations.

What do I do?
I work closely with the Trading, Sales & Technology teams to increase TD's presence on electronic platforms and to grow our client franchise globally.Proud moment:
My proudest moment has been having the opportunity to mentor, support and train many of the talented women within our organisation. It's been amazing to see them develop and grow more confident, as well as to see their hard work being recognised through promotion. We can all rise by lifting others!Advice to my younger self:
Make the most of your network. Don't be shy about asking them for help and advice, especially in our current remote WFH environment. People are always willing to help – just make sure you're specific about what you need help with and that you go to the right person for the right thing.
